r/Health – Women’s Pain Is Different From Men’s—the Drugs Could Be Too: We have different biological pathways for chronic pain, which means pain-relieving drugs that work for one sex might fail in the other half of the population.

This will be a great first step in understanding the gender differences of pain. It’s also awesome that we already have some potential drugs that can be applied to the neuropeptide for women if that is indeed a source of chronic pain. Period pain is a big problem for me, and I would love to stop taking hormones to stop the pain.

That being said, I wouldn’t be surprised if both genders had a mix of these types of pain, one more than the other. Perhaps it may just be a matter of prescribing medication toward the right type of pain. We need some really well-defined studies and trials–more than just adding female mice. Mice, as close as they are to us, are still not human.
