Media drives of the much awaited Tata Harrier have begun, and Tata Motors has just released everything you need to know about the specifications of this SUV. From pictures of the Tata Harrrier’s exteriors and interiors to technical specifications, here’s all you need to know.
Let’s look at the mechanicals first. The Tata Harrier will be powered by a 2 liter Fiat Multijet turbocharged diesel engine that Tata Motors calls as KRYOTEC. This engine will produce 140 Bhp-350 Nm, and will be paired to a 6 speed manual gearbox. The gearbox will drive the front wheels of the SUV, which also gets three driving modes – Eco, City and Sport. An automatic gearbox will join the Harrier line-up later.
While we will let the pictures do the talking when it comes to the Tata Harrier’s styling, here are the standout features on the outside of the SUV. Five key external features include the HID projector headlamps, the LED DRLs that double up as turn indicators, 3D LED tail lamps, 5 spoke alloy wheels in 17 inch size and wing mirrors that project the Tata Harrier name onto the ground.
On the inside, the Harrier is easily the most luxurious Tata car ever built. There’s an oak-finish dashboard that adds an element of luxury while other features such as the cooled glove box, airliner style parking brake, leather wrapped dashboard, leather wrapped steering, gear knob and seats, and satin chrome finish for interior fitments add to the premium feel.
Notable features on the Tata Harrier SUV include automatic headlamps, rain sensing wipers, electrically adjustable wing mirrors with folding function, automatic climate control, rear AC vents, a steering adjustable for tilt and reach, push button start and multiple storage bits inside the cabin.
There is an 8.8 inch floating infotaiment touchscreen in the SUV, which is a best-in-class feature. The 320W, 9 speaker audio set up from JBL is another defining feature of the infotainment package. The Harrier also gets a TFT instrument cluster.
As for safety, the Tata Harrier promises to raise the bar with a slew of active and safety features. It’s easily the most safety-loaded Tata car ever. 6 airbags, ABS+EBD and an Electronic Stability Program (ESP) with an extensive set of safety aids are key features.
The ESP has a mind boggling 11 functions ranging from hill descent control and hill hold to off-road ABS, cornering stability control and brake disc wiping. Other safety features include cornering fog lamps, perimetric alarm system, seat belt reminders for driver and co-passenger, reverse parking camera and ISOFIX child seat mounting points. Cruise control is also on offer.
The Tata Harrier uses an Indianized version of the Land Rover D8 platform. Known as OMEGA, the new platform has many bits carried over from Land Rover. For instance, the front suspension is a carry over from Land Rover. The rear torsion beam has been tuned by Lotus Engineering of the UK while Tata Motors has taken an old-school approach with the steering, choosing to use a hydraulic set-up for better feel and control. To sum it up, the Tata Harrier is the most advanced car that the Indian automaker has ever built.
