Big family cars have always seen a good market in India. Almost all manufacturers offer SUVs and MPVs in their model lineup to get a slice out of the hot selling segment. This year, many manufacturers have planned to bring in seven seater vehicles to cater to the buyers. Many of them will be bigger versions of their already existing 5 seater cousins. Let’s now take a look into five cars that will have a seven seat configuration and will be launched this year.
The Renault Kwid based MPV, codenamed as RBC, will be launched this year by the company. IT will be a sub-four-meter compact MPV and is likely to get an updated version of the Kwid’s 1.0-litre petrol engine. A diesel engine is, however, not expected as the company doesn’t have a suitable powertrain yet. The car will be feature rich and will come with safety equipment like ABS and rear parking sensors as standard on the whole range. As of now, no word has been out yet on pricing but expect Renault to place it near the Rs. 6 lakh bracket in order to be competitive.
Datsun Go Cross
Datsun is also planning to bring in a sub-compact SUV to India this year. Dubbed as the Go Cross, the car will be based on the Renault-Nissan Alliance’s CMF-A platform and will take on the likes of the Tata Nexon and Mruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza among others. It is expected that the the vehicle will be powered by an updated version of company’s 1.0-litre petrol engine. With the pricing done right, it could be the success story the brand has been long waiting for.
Mahindra XUV300 7 seater
Mahindra has announced that it will launch its much anticipated XUV300 sub-compact SUV on the 15th of February this year. However, the company is also developing another vehicle on the same SsangYong Tivoli platform. This new SUV will be a seven seater version of the XUV300 and will be longer than four meters in length. As the XUV300 is loaded to brim with features, expect the same to be on the seater version. The car will be powered by the same 1.5 litre Diesel engine and a 1.2 litre petrol unit.
Hyundai Creta 7 seater
The Hyundai Creta has been the best selling vehicle in its category since a long time. This year though, joining the Creta will be its seven seater sibling. A seven seater version of the car had will utilize the Kia platform that will also underpin the upcoming SP model.
It could be more feature rich than the current 5 seater version. Even though the all-new Creta has been caught testing already with heavy camouflage, there are no clear pictures of the seven seater version of the SUV available.
Tata will launch the Harrier this month on the 23rd of January. Now Tata has revealed that the 7 seater vrsion of it will also come here by the end of this year. The Tata H7X will be longer than the Harrier but will have the same wheelbase. It will be powered by the same 2.0 litre KRYOTEC engine too. Going by speculations, the company will bring in the H7X by the Diwali festive season this year. The pricing for the H7X is another crucial area for the company to achieve and we expect it to start below Rs. 20 lakh.
