r/Health – Rare brain-eating amoebas killed Seattle woman who rinsed her sinuses with tap water. Doctor warns this could happen again

I know quite a few waterplant operators and I never hear of people getting sick. Sure, sometimes there’s a water main break and some bacteria gets into the system. But any time there’s any “upset conditions” it is gets reported, an immediate boil water advisory is put in place, the system is flushed out and sampled for bacteria. Once a lab determines that there’s no bacteria present and that the water is safe to drink then the boil water is advisory is lifted.
