Tyra Banks is Opening a Modelland Theme Park
Tyra Banks, who introduced a generation of people to the term ‘smize,’ is all set to launch a new project. The America’s Next Top Model creator and supermodel announced this week that she’s working on a theme park called Modelland that will open at Santa Monica Place shopping mall sometime this year. “Modelland will be a 21,000-square-foot, ticketed attraction creating a fantasy version of the modelling world,” reports WWD. According to Banks, it will allow visitors to “be the dream version of themselves.” Her vision for Modelland is a place where “men, women, families, all generations can come and enter this model world for a day, have a fun shopping experience, and an eventful meal.” [WWD]
Iris Apfel Signs a Modelling Contract with IMG
The 97-year-old is no stranger to the fashion world. She’s been a street style star for decades, she’s fronted campaigns for brands like Macy’s and Kate Spade, and she’s been the subject of not just a documentary film about her style but also a fashion exhibit at the Metropolitan Museum of Art. And now the legend is “officially” a model repped by IMG, the same global agency that works with Kate Moss, Chrissy Teigen, Karlie Kloss and Gigi Hadid. [Fortune]
Philipp Plein Gets Scammed by Someone Pretending to be Kanye West
Designer Philipp Plein’s invitation to his upcoming A/W ’19 show at New York Fashion Week reportedly stated that Kanye West would be performing, but turns out he’s not. According to TMZ, someone who knows West contacted the designer pretending to be his rep, and made a seven-figure bogus deal for West to perform at Plein’s show on February 11. The man, who TMZ describes as a “former friend” of Ye’s, reportedly forged West’s signature on the contract and even received a $900,000 advance. [Cosmopolitan]
