4 Ways CEOs Can Improve Blood Circulation during the Workday | CEOWORLD magazine

When you’re logging long hours at work, it can be easy to neglect your own health and wellness. And CEOs bear the brunt of this – it can be hard to find the time to leave your desk and take a timeout for your own health. To help you stay healthy, here are four ways to improve your health and increase blood circulation during the workday.

Invest in a standing desk

If you’re like most CEOs, you spend the majority of your day either sitting in meetings, or sitting at your desk taking phone calls and conducting business. It’s shown that people who sit a lot have increased risk of diabetes, obesity and stress-related illness. A great way to switch up your routine and make a significant impact on your health is by upgrading your regular desk to a standing desk.

A standing desk can help you burn more calories during the day; even the small movements you make, like shifting your weight back and forth while on your feet, can add up at the end up the day.

In addition, a standing desk can help correct poor posture that develops from sitting and looking at a computer for the majority of the day. If you don’t want to fully commit to standing all day, you can invest in a convertible desk that allows you to sit and stand simply by changing the height of your desk, or you can purchase a standing desk chair that will give you the option to rest your feet during the day.

Suggest walking meetings

It’s natural for CEOs to spend much of their time in meetings – many of your employees and colleagues rely on you for your opinion, and getting some face time with you can make all the difference. Instead of moving from meeting to meeting, and from conference room to conference room throughout the day, if someone proposes a one-on-one meeting with you, suggest taking it outside with a walking meeting.

Walking meetings are a great option for brainstorming meetings or personnel check-ins, since you (or your meeting partner) won’t be able to take notes easily during a walking meeting. Walking meetings can help reenergize you, and give you a break from sitting during the day, which will positively affect your daily health and wellness.

Make time for fitness

Some of the most successful people in the world swear by working out first thing in the morning. Take a page from their book and make time for 30 minutes of exercise each morning. It will help clear your mind and set you up for a successful day ahead. Plus, you will go into your day with a sense of accomplishment knowing that you have already completed one important task in the name of your own health and wellness.

Take breaks

You are allowed to take breaks in the name of your health. Even a two-minute walk around the office can make a difference if it’s something you work into your daily routine (and even better if you can manage to do this multiple times a day). The human body was designed to be in motion, and it’s important for you to find time to get your body moving during the workday.
